My Life Verse

My Life Verse

One of my favorite verses is Romans 12:2. This verse can be looked at in many different perspectives. I want to break it down into parts and what it means to me.

Romans 12:2
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

The first part of this verse says, "do not be conformed to this world." I like to remember this part when I feel out of place in this world. It is okay to be different or feel uncomfortable around other people who do not have the same Christian values. God made us to be set apart and we need to set an example by following Jesus' example. We need to feel comfortable with who God made us to be and in what we believe in.

The next part of the verse says, "
be transformed by the renewal of your mind." This part of the verse reminds me that in order to become "set apart" for Christ, you need to be transformed. This scripture says that we should be transformed by the renewal of our mind. What does that mean? We need to allow Jesus to come into our hearts, cleanse us, and take control of our thoughts and actions. If we put God first and obey His word, we will be renewed and our actions and thoughts will be more aligned with God's will. This leads into the next part of the verse.

The next part of the verse states, "by testing you may discern what is the will of God." This part of the verse can be hard to process. People usually skip or overlook this phrase. This part of the verse proves that being a follower of Christ is not easy. We will go through trials and tests and hard times. A good example is Joseph and Job. They experienced many obstacles and at times it seemed that God had forgotten them, but he was and will always be there for us. He has a plan behind everything! We need to trust in him, have perseverance, and keep a Christlike attitude through everything. Then we will be able to accomplish God's will.

The last part of this verse is a great reminder and encouragement. It says, "what is good and acceptable and perfect." This tells us that God has a plan which is good for our life, acceptable in this world, and perfect in his story. This world is filled with evil things. We are called to be set apart from what this world thinks is "normal". We are different because we are in Christ. We need to be the light. We can only do this by having a relationship with God and doing His will! This verse reminds us of that! I hope you can now look at this verse from many different aspects to help you with your daily struggles. I pray that you could apply this verse in your daily lives!
Love,
Samy
